Wiersma Family Blog

A glimpse into our lives as a family with micro-preemies. Our twins boys (Lovingly referred to as our Miracle Men) were born almost 16 weeks early.

Our journey continues when our son Max was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 3. This is his story....

Could it be?

This is just going to be a short post...sorry for the lack of communication. I can hardly believe that I am writing this, but there is about an 80% chance that Maxwell is coming home tomorrow (Monday)!! After 9-months and 7-days, 283 total days and 15,000+ miles just commuting to the hospital and back, I cannot believe that he might actually come home. After a certain period of time I think I just thought this is how life would be for us: one of us parenting Wes while the other parented Max at the hospital. There is certainly equal levels of excitement and fear about Max coming home. Life will not be the same for us for a long, long time. We will have a nurse living in the house every night, help for Kate during the day while I am at work and a tremendous amount of responsibility with Max's trach. Please pray that tomorrow will be the day, that Max will make the transition well and that Kate and I will make the transition well. It seems like too much to handle right now and we are praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit to carry us through.

Here are some pictures from Christmas day...we cheated and put the boys by each other. Needless to say, it was amazing!!

Warning!!: These are the cutest kids you will ever see.

  1. OMG!!! They are such handsome little dudes!!! Love those pictures!! I will be praying for a smooth transition to home for Max and praying for you as you all get adjusted to this new lifestyle. Look out Drenthe...another good looking boy is moving into town!!

    God Bless.....Tina Jacobsen

  5. Mark and Kate.
Has anyone else mentioned that Wes seems to favor Kate and Max seems to favor Mark when it comes to good looks? Just curious. Loved seeing a new post from you guys, we missed you at Christmas (obviously our fault, not yours). We had heard through the grapevine that Max might be coming home soon-glad it is more than just a rumor! We are praying for you all during this possible transition time!

  6. Mark and Kate,

Congrats. I am Sherebiah's foster mom. It has been an interesting journey in Nursery 4 over the past 3 months. We have not been able to get to know each other very well, but please know that Max brought a smile to our face every day that we sat rocking Sherebiah. He is an amazing little boy and your family will be in our prayers as you start the next part of our journey with the boys.

  7. The pic's are GREAT!
We are praying hard that Max will be home today. We didn't decorate the house this time because we don't know for sure if Max is on his way home, sorry.
Please let us know if we can do anything for you.
    Love you all very much!!
